RESI-extrem II - Application and stabilization of resilience strategies for cities in dealing with spatially ubiquitous extreme weather events

Project duration: 08/2021 to 07/2023

The objective of RESI-extrem II strengthening the resilience of small towns and medium-sized cities facing heavy rainfalls. It is vital for these cities to be designed in a more resistant and robust way in order to be able to cope and adapt to the negative impacts of this extreme weather event. Existing strategies to increase resilience in the partner cities will be tested for their feasibility. After that, the first implementation steps of these strategies will be initiated in both partner cities, Olfen and Schwäbisch Gmünd. Moreover, the idea of building resilience will also be integrated at two levels, city and district level, in the long term.

Moreover, the measures contained in the draft urban development concepts (InSEK) of the partner cities (from the former project RESI-extrem) will be prioritized for enhancing resilience. The analysis also addresses potential synergies and conflicts with other interests or concerns, which leads to higher consideration of resilience in future planning processes (e.g. development or landscape planning).

The basis of the investigations will enable funding application development for increasing the implementation of resilience approaches of small towns and medium-sized cities. Eventually, the overall goal of this project is a higher implementation of strategies to increase resilience in cities.
